Outbound/Relaying

Outbound or relaying is when a trusted host is allowed to send non-local mail to hosts on the internet. Any host which uses SMTP AUTH is automatically trusted as is any host explicitly allowed to relay using the Maps.

If SMTP AUTH is used, then TUXGUARD Mail Gateway will automatically look for the SMTP AUTH username and password within the body of the email being sent. If both username and password are found the message is rejected and a warning sent to the user.

This is a crude method to try and prevent a user from replying to a Phishing message with their username and password.

Address Book

For outbound traffic, the Address Book will record all of the correspondents e-mail addresses that a user sends messages to. The address book is then consulted for each inbound recipient to see if the sender is present in the recipient’s Address Book.

If a match is found, then certain spam checks are bypassed which reduces potential false-positives and increases scanning efficiency.
